In what looks like rush hour in San Francisco, California, is merely the end of the line as the Powell Street line terminates at Market Street. Four cable cars are lined up waiting their turns on the "armstrong" turntable so that they can begin their journey back to the Hyde and Beach Street stop near Fisherman's Wharf. In the distance, a cable car climbs Powell Street while another descends Powell to line up behind these four other cars. San Francisco Municipal Railway car 27, operating on Muni Line 60, was originally numbered 527 when built in 1887 by the Mahoney Bros., San Francisco, for the Ferries & Cliff House Railway (Powell Street Railway). The Mahoney Bros. subcontracted with Burnham-Standeford in Oakland, California, to build its cars. Assigned to the Sacramento-Clay cable car line before the 1906 Earthquake and Fire, the United Railroads transferred it back to the Powell Street cable car lines in 1907. This car was extensively rebuilt by Muni at the Elkton shops in 1958. In 1973, it was renumbered 27. (San Francisco, California - June 15, 2018)
