EMD’s two demonstration/test bed electric freight locomotives rest outside of Conrail/Amtrak’s engine service facility in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Both the 10,000 hp GM10B and the 6,000 hp GM6C were six-axle units, but the B-B-B GM10B rode on ASEA four wheel trucks, while the C-C GM6C had two EMD Flexicoil six-wheel trucks. The energy economics of the early 80’s lead Conrail to the decision that total dieselization was the best solution to their future needs, and both units were sent back to EMD and subsequently scrapper.
