Remarks & Notes
Following an early morning February 12, partial tunnel collapse in the famed B&M (Pan Am Southern) Hoosac Tunnel, detour plans were put in motion for freight traffic to utilize Vermont Rail System between Hoosick Jct., NY and Bellows Falls, VT, to keep PAS mainline trains fluid. An overnight 11R westbound detoured from Bellows Falls to Hoosick on Wednesday night, then on Thursday a 16R eastbound detour departed Hoosick for Bellows Falls. With a train consisting of 48L x 17E, 17,000 hp was employed consisting of VTR GP40-2 307, VTR GP38-2 201, and MEC B40-8s 5974, 5943, and 5973. Train is in dynamic braking mode downgrade at Ludlow in this image. A trio of Alien Bees used to fill flash.
