A weekend get-away in Glenwood Springs, Colorado gave me the chance to do some winter railfanning in western Colorado. First off, I got yet another lesson in just how little rail traffic there is on the old Moffat route. The only trains you can really count on seeing are the twice a day Amtrak’s, #’s 5 and 6. So, when all you’ve got is lemons; make lemonade. Just one highway exit west of Glenwood Springs is South Canyon. I have tried several times to find the best camera angle to shoot here as the view to the east is pretty good. This is a very busy paved road and the chance of getting your shot blocked by trucks is high. However today I got lucky. Here is Amtrak #5, the California Zephyr at South Canyon, Colorado
