California's San Joaquin Valley produces the majority of the 12.8% of the United States' agricultural production (as measured by dollar value) that comes from California. Because of the massive amount to food grown here, the two class 1 railroads that serve it (BNSF and Union Pacific) operate a number of locals to serve the many grain elevators, packing houses and other businesses in this half of the Central Valley. On August 7, 2000, Burlington Northern Santa Fe local L-NCA0314-07 heads south through Corcoran, 63 miles north of Bakersfield. BNSF GP60 8714 (the former ATSF 4014) is teamed with Santa Fe GP60B 338 on a train consisting of grain cars and tank cars.
