In 1953, the Pennsylvania Rail Road, bought two SD7’s for use in Indiana’s 5.89% Madison Hill grade. The EMD’s were ballasted with added weight, and had extra added features including special low-speed dynamic brake transition. After twenty-six years of service on the line, Conrail transferred its only two SD7’s to Allentown, Pennsylvania, where they would spend the rest of their careers at the end of 1978. Here one of them heads west at Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
