Baseball Special, Minor. On August 27, 2009, MTA SIRT 426 (St. Louis R-44S/ME-2) returns to St. George Station ahead of making the shorter of its 2 trips to Ballpark Station in Staten Island, New York. The Staten Island Yankees would take on the Tri-City ValleyCats at the Ballpark At St. George that evening and prevail 10-6. Service to Ballpark Station, which was the only passenger service on the former B&O North Shore Line since 1953, commenced on June 24, 2001. It was never well patronized, and was discontinued on June 18, 2010 during a round of MTA service cuts. While prospects for a return of service were already bleak, the announcement that the Yankee minor league affiliate would be moving to Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, New York for the 2021 MILB Season will not help. The trackage remains in place for non-revenue usage, and the R-44S cars are slated to be replaced as part of the R-211 order.
