It's dawn at Southern Cross station, and 1951 built Hudsons R711 and R761 prepare to depart with 11 cars, bound for Ballarat via Geelong. At Ballarat the Rs will be swapped for a pair of K class 2-8-0s for the long run to Sea Lake. This was the first leg of the six day 'Southern Steam Spectacular,' operated by Cruise Express using rollingstock chartered from Steamrail Victoria. You can watch a video of the spectacular departure here: https://youtu.be/BXmS9Ckz_2s
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
