Running 30 minutes late, Amtrak train 314 departs from a town in central Missouri behind P42DC 66, belching smoke and temporarily drowning out the music from the town’s Octoberfest celebration, is painted in the carrier’s Phase II scheme to commemorate Amtrak’s 40th Anniversary, pulling three Horizon coaches and one Amfleet café car. This is the Missouri River Runner, heading from Kansas City to St. Louis. Amtrak 66 would be wrecked on February 19, 2016, when it struck a truck, and the locomotive’s frame cracked irreparably.
