Portrait of the SLRG #459 (ex Amtrak #264) at La Veta station. The locomotive has just arrived at the station with a passenger train from Alamosa. #459 was originally delivered to Amtrak as F40PH/F40PHR passenger locomotives, and following retirement were rebuilt for freight service. The locomotives were initially used on the Canadian American Railroad (CDAC). After CDAC was purchased from bankruptcy in 2003, the locomotives passed along to successor Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway (majority owned by Rail World), while others were leased to Hudson Bay Railway; all were eventually sold to other operators in the mid-2000s.
