Canadian Pacific ES44AC 8757 has been painted in an orange livery that bears the motto "Every Child Matters" in order to celebrate the new holiday National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which honors the lost children and survivors of Indian Residential Schools, their families and communities, and coincides with Orange Shirt Day, an Indigenous-led day of remembrance. The special livery was proposed by Jacob Hoffer, a 13-year-old Indigenous youth, who over the summer wrote to the railway asking it to paint a locomotive orange. Jacob and his mother, Darcy, participated in the unveiling of the locomotive at CP headquarters in Calgary on September 29, 2021, with the engine entering service on September 30, 2021 – the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
And the engine is, unsurprisingly, traveling all over the CP system … as well as off the system, as evidenced by CP 8757 leading Union Pacific train ISILB4-16 (Intermodal; Santa Teresa NM to Long Beach CA), teamed with UP ET44ACs 2585 and 2639, seen setting some cars out at the UP’s Aurant Yard just east of downtown Los Angeles – just about two miles from the trackage that has been on the news the past few days because of numerous train break-ins.
