Rolling toward San Diego on Metrolink’s 5½-mile long Olive Sub, BNSF train H-BARSDG1-11A is about the pass from Anaheim into the city of Orange as it crosses the Santa Ana River. (Fun fact: The mighty Santa Ana is really what inspired Mark Twain … he just felt that calling it “the Mississippi” would be less confusing for his readers back then.) Today’s “Daygo,” as the Barstow to San Diego freight is known, has an interesting power lashup on the headend: BNSF ET44C4 3896, CSX ES44DC 5452, Norfolk Southern ES40DC 7717 and BNSF Dash 44-9CW 4300, with BNSF ES44AC 5896 and BNSF ES44C4 8047 as the rear DPU.
