2022 MTA NYCT Subway/NY Transit Museum Holiday Train. A new experience was created for the 2022 Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA NYCT Subway/ New York Transit Museum, as for the first time a repainted 10-car train of IRT (Interboro Rapid Transit/A Division/Numbered Line) was operated for this event. The train made 4 round trips between Chambers Street and 137 Street-City College, and there was no extra charge for taking a ride. The cars represent a few contacts of similar cars built by St. Louis Car Company-GSI between 1962-1964, and were all retired from active service by the end of 2003. Enchanting the variety of the experience, the 5 “sets” of cars (4 married pairs and 1 set of 2 single cars) were repainted into 5 different paint schemes that the cars wore over their 40 year careers. From the very bright and long gone 1964-54 World’s Fair Robin’s Egg blue and white to the more recent “Gunn Red” Redbirds, this train was indeed of many colors. On Sunday, December 11, 2022, the third of four weeks of this special operating, the weather was a bit cold and rainy, and it was a good day to spend underground. On the second trip of the day, R-33 9017 (“Tartar Red”) is seen at the 96th Street Station. The fence on the left side of the picture stands on what was an additional platform when this route was opened in 1904, but has since been closed to the public.
9069-9068 Kale Green “Green Machines” (R-33)
9010-9011 Blue-And-Silver “Platinum Mist” (R-33)

9586-9587 “Gunn Red” Redbirds (R-36WF)
