Remarks & Notes
Resting at Truckee, California, on March 10, 2000, Southern Pacific EMD GP38-2 No. 4809 is specially-equipped with to provide motive power for snow fighting trains on Donner Pass. The apparatus on the cab roof is an icicle breaker, used to trim away icicles forming inside tunnels and snowsheds before they can damage high-clearance equipment.
