Queens Mainline.
A Manhattan-bound 7 train is seen departing 69th St Station on the IRT Flushing Line of the New York City Subway. The train is passing the abandoned switch tower at 65th St, which controlled an interlocking between 61st St and 69th St Stations. The interlocking has now been relocated to either side of 74th St Station on an arrangement that allows trains to switch from the express track back to the local track in either direction before the busy station and switch from the local track to the express track in either direction after the station. This helps to ensure the station, which has a busy transfer to the IND Queens Blvd Line, is served even when maintenance diversions send trains via the express track.
