MNR to NYP. As part of the planning for Metro-North Railroad "Penn Station Access", a train of Kawasaki M8s visited Penn Station during the first week of March, 2023. When work is completed, it is planned for the cars to use overhead catenary up to GATE interlocking and third rail power from GATE to New York Penn Station/Moynihan Train Hall. The cars cannot use catenary for the entire trip because of the change in the current of the traction power, but the switch in modes happens while the train continues to move in the same way that the cars do now on the New Haven Line trip to Grand Central Terminal.
