As the last light of the day fades behind Mount Tamalpais, across San Francisco Bay, San Francisco Municipal Railway Cable Car 19 awaits its time on the turntable before heading back to Market Street from Powell Street on Muni's Line 60. This car is the second No. 19, built almost entirely new, except for some metal work, by Muni. It was dedicated on October 7, 1986. The car body was constructed at the Muni's Woods Division carpentry shop and the running gear was built at Pier 80. The first No. 19, originally No. 519, was a Carter Bros. car, rebuilt by Muni and renumbered to No. 500 in 1968, and renumbered again to No. 19 in 1973. This car was scrapped in 1986 after being judged to be in too poor a condition to be rehabilitated. By this time, 9:40 pm (21:40), there are few passengers as many of the city's tourists have found other things to entertain them. (San Francisco, California – June 17, 2023)
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
