Surfliner Triple Seven. Amtrak/Amtrak California Train 777 was heading from Los Angeles, California to San Luis Obispo, California on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 next to US Route 101 when it passed through in Ventura, California just past Santa Barbara Avenue. The locomotive, AMTK 463 (F59PHI, 8/1998, EMD), would soon be retired from Surfliner service, but has found a second life in the Chicagoland area as METRA/METX 86(F59PHI), a place where it will not pass palm trees and sand as frequently as it did in the first part of its career. This portion of the METRA roster, METX 73-93, includes 15 ex-Amtrak California and 6 ex-Amtrak Cascades F59PHIs.
