"Final Service Over the South Side (for now)"
On the late evening of July 27th, 2023, CTrail train 4414, led by Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Mafersa cab car 1707 coasts off of the Warehouse Point (Connecticut River) Railroad Bridge into Enfield, Connecticut on the MRS (Hartford) Line while heading towards Springfield, Massachusetts. This would be one of the last trains to travel on the south side track of the bridge, with the single main being shifted over to the adjacent north track a day later.
The north side track was abandoned during the 80's as a cost cutting measure, but was recently rebuilt by Amtrak & the Connecticut Department of Transportation in efforts to completely re-double track the Hartford line. With traffic shifted to the north side, crews will be able to focus on refurbishing the south side.
