The cold winter night is briefly disturbed as CN’s Hattiesburg to Evanston, MS turn L543 flys north through Merrill, MS on CN’s Beaumont Subdivision. Powering tonight’s L543 is a matching pair of Grand Trunk Western GP38-2s. Leading the charge back to Hattiesburg is GTW 6224, built for the DT&I in 1975, followed by GTW 5814, built for GTW in 1978. While time has certainly taken its toll, the red and blue still pops even after nearly fifty years of service.
