The mainline between Los Angeles and San Diego is once again severed, thanks to yet another landslide in San Clemente. As a result, the trains operating south of there have unusual numbers, as exemplified by Amtrak train 1785, seen passing through CP Rose in San Diego’s Rose Canyon. This is normally train 785, but as it is operating only from San Diego to Oceanside, and cannot operated further, it has become a train with a four-digit number, as there is still a train 785 operating north of here, from Irvine to Ventura, north of Los Angeles.
