Clifton Forge is a shadow of what it used to be but is still a very interesting railroad town. It is still a significant terminal for CSX, is a stop for Amtrak's Cardinal, and home to the C&O Railway Heritage Center whose equipment can be seen in the background. This is also an interchange point for the Buckingham Branch Railroad, and Z631 has just picked up its interchange and is headed back to home rails just ahead at JD Cabin. Raw crossties make up a signficant portion of the BB's traffic on this end of the line, and are bound for Stella Jones in Goshen, VA.
The "BB" was founded in 1988 and ran its first train on March 6, 1989. The BB has grown from 17 miles of track and two employees to 275 miles and 75 employees, spanning over Virginia in three separate divisions.
