On a blistering July 24, 2009, and after the passage of Tie North 9068 tie gang at milepost 372 west of Julesburg, Colorado, a sun kink developed in the hot afternoon sun. This is not uncommon on hot days after a tie gang goes through, since there is quite a bit of disturbance of the track structure replacing ties. Gang 9068 soon had an army of men on the scene that quickly dispatched the anomaly in the track and got trains running again on the westbound main.
