Windy City Bound
The state supported Amtrak 306 “Lincoln Service” is running at an incredible speed of 110mph on the 284-mile-long journey north to Chicago from St. Louis on the outskirts of Litchfield, IL Prior to the Lincoln Service, Amtrak had operated the “State House” train between Chicago to St Louis in 1973. Originally the train was profiled to run to Springfield, IL connecting the mid Illinois city to Chicago, but was extended to St. Louis due to Springfield not having a place to turn the train. The “Lincoln Service” is also a connector train to the “Missouri River Runner” which operate between Kansas City and St. Louis. On this day for some unusual reason the “Lincoln Service” is being profiled on the NS Brooklyn District instead of the UP Springfield Sub.
The GE Genesis series are well known for being Amtrak's locomotive. With confirmation of retirement from Amtrak themselves, their time is limited. Now is your chance to catch them before the chargers arrive!
