After sitting idle in Coaster's Stuart Mesa yard for over a year, the railroad’s 5 former F40PHM-2C locomotives hitch a ride on a San Diego to Barstow autorack train, likely towards their demise. The locomotives were initially to be donated to a railroad museum, however that fate is uncertain after fundraising took longer than expected. It is likely that these units are headed to a scrapper instead. It is sad to see these workhorses go after their decades of service in San Diego county, yet another casualty of newer, more efficient locomotives.
