BNSF light power waits in the hole at Wagon Mound for Amtrak #3 to pass by. Lucky for us the engineer was a railfan as well and stopped the power by the blades for a nice photo op!

With the sun fading over the New Mexico Desert, Amtrak #4 heads east to Chicago. The train knocks down a set of almost 100 year old semaphores, dating back to the steam era.

Right on time, Amtrak's westbound Chief approaches the summit of Raton Pass, negotiating the famous curves of Dick Wootton's ranch in Colorado just short of the New Mexico border.

Sunflowers soak up the warm, summer sun this afternoon at Wagon Mound as Amtrak 3, the Southwest Chief, races west as it splits the semaphore signals at the east end of the siding here.

Having successfully crested the summit of Glorieta Pass, Amtrak 3 has just begun it's long decent down the western slope toward its next station stop of Lamy.
