Great Northern EMD NW3 No. 181 makes a great display in the parking lot of the station at Whitefish, Montana, as seen on September 6, 1999. Only seven NW3 locomotives were built by EMD, all going to the GN. The units were built on lengthened frames and were equipped with Blomberg trucks, and had large cabs with a bulge just ahead of the cab containing a steam generator for passenger service. The orange and dark green paint on the BNSF locomotives in the background sure is similar.
