Great Shot Drew. It looks like the girl may be giving the peace sign but I cannot tell but you might be able to zoom in. After all it would not be surprising with the Vietnam War still going on. |

Wow, this has probably become one of my most favorite photos on this site. Its symbolic in a way....the train racing off into the mountains signifying the end of an era. A superb trainset traversing through a classic scenic railroad location with the loop and the mountains and the snow on top!
The girl is doing a piece sign but it also seems like a personification of the era of railroading that was to dissapear within the next month. |

I agree with all the other sentiments here. It's the classic 3/4 view, but it's operating on a whole other level. The color, the lighting, the scene, and the human element all make this a big-time winner. Thanks for sharing! |

BAM! Her smile and the peace symbol (Vietnam?) seals the deal as an excellent POTW. That definitely makes an ordinary photo extraordinary! Certainly an element of luck in this one. Wonderful mountains and great human element. Sharp as a tack and hard to believe from the quality of the image that its from 1971. How'd you scan the negative to digital format? Haven't seen a film -> digital that clear in ages. Beautiful old SP cars too! Man, I wish I could have seen those in my lifetime... Great shot Drew!!! |

Wow. For those of us who know a bit about trains, , it's an incredible combination of factors. There's snow on the Tehachapis, a passenger train on The Loop, all captured in the last days before Amtrak. For those who don't know trains...it's just a great photo. |

Great shot!! Now, if they could run passenger trains over Tehachipi then, why won't they now? Amtrak thruway busses connecting LA and Bakersfield are okay, but the trains would make it a lot nicer! I guess we'll have to wait until the High Speed Rail starts to have passenger trains run over the Tehachipi's again. |
