West Side Lumber Company No. 9 pauses at Snipe Run with a passenger train. Note the "new" number plate mounted on the smokebox. When the engine came to Old Threshers in 1966, the original plate was missing - sold off or given to a railfan, since it was likely the engine was going to be scrapped. When the engine came to Iowa, a replacement plate was made (reportedly from West Side engine No. 12) which the No. 9 wore until last year, when the owner of the original No. 9 plate was found. The original plate was aquired by the Midwest Central this spring, and for the 2008 Reunion it was restored and reinstalled on No. 9 - together again after 43 years!
