Remarks & Notes
Great Northern’s Train 31, westbound Empire Builder, was descending Marias Pass when it met eastbound Train 28, the Western Star near Blacktail, Mont. Anticipating the upcoming merger to create the Burlington Northern 11 months away, both trains had a rainbow of cars in blue, white, green and orange.
