TVRM's TAG GP38 Nº80 stands at Soule Shops in Chattanooga, Tennessee on June 11, 2016 while undergoing some final electrical work. The Nº80 is noted as being the first high hood GP38 built. Built in February 1968 for the Tennessee Alabama & Georgia and named "John A. Chambliss", the unit became Southern Railway 2879 in 1971 with the Southern takeover of the TAG and later NS 2879. After joining the expanded fleet of GP38s on Southern's roster, the unit was retrofitted with dynamic brakes, paper air filter replacing the as built oil bath filtering system and changed to long hood forward operation. After retirement by Norfolk Southern, the unit was purchased by private entities then donated to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in mid 2001. Through the later part of 2015 and early 2016, the 2879 has seen the rebirth to it's as delivered attire.
