After a quarter-century pulling trainloads of black diamonds like the ones they’re rolling past, this pair of Western Maryland F7’s has been promoted to hauling varnish as a retirement gift. This is a Washington, D.C. – Martinsburg, WV “Farewell to the WM F’s” excursion as part of the 1979 NRHS Convention. After dropping its passengers at Martinsburg, the consist has gone west to turn on the wye at the CV (Cumberland Valley) connection, and is now returning to the station area. My vantage point is the CV bridge (now Winchester & Western) over the B&O main. This shot is no longer possible, as the North Raleigh Street bridge now obstructs the view.
