The hard winter of 1977-78 knocked so many MBTA RDCs out of service with ice damage to their engines or transmissions that Boston & Maine GP7s were borrowed to provide propulsion and became a common sight on the MBTA North Side lines. Here B&M 1562 leads an inbound train across the Danvers River trestle at Beverly, MA.
