Remarks & Notes
Controversy averted. The 4:30PM Reading and Northern Railroad/Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway train (“Gorge Express“) crosses the original Jersey Central Railroad bridge across the Lehigh river at Nesquehoning Junction, now the R&N Jim Thorpe Branch, on Saturday, August 15, 2020. RBMN 425 (neé-Gulf, Mobile, and Northern Railroad 425, Baldwin 4-6-2, “Light Pacific”, built in 1928), leads on the first weekend of passenger service for the season, delayed by both the COVID-19 virus restrictions and the borough of Jim Thorpe’s unsuccessful attempt to impose an additional local tax on each ticket sold.

Pennsylvania is home to the famous Strasburg Railroad and several other lines that use steam power. Unfortunately, it narrow gauge jewel, the East Broad Top, no longer operates.
