Time-travelers. A Northern Central Railway passenger train slows for a station stop in the very aptly named Pennsylvania Borough of "Railroad." Back in the 1860s, this train would have continued on to an ultimate destination of Baltimore.
Organized and consolidated in 1858, the Northern Central Railway provided transportation between Baltimore, MD and a myriad of stops running north all the way to Sunbury, PA, north of Harrisburg. In the 20th century, the line became part of the mighty Pennsylvania Railroad System and operated until sections of it were heavily damaged in a 1972 hurricane. At that point, the line had been in use for 134 years, making it one of the oldest railway lines in the US. Sections of it have been used by various operations since, but the most well-known is probably the tourist railroad that exists now between New Freedom, PA and Hanover Junction. Founded in 2013, and utilizing a David Kloke-built replica of an 1860's 4-4-0, the new Northern Central Railway provides themed passenger excursions, time-traveling over a route known to have been traveled by President Lincoln when he gave his famous address a the Gettysburg National Military Cemetery.
