Remarks & Notes
On an unusually cold and snowy October 10, 1997, Amtrak’s eastbound Empire Builder makes the climb over Marias Pass just west of Summit, Montana. This was during a short timeframe when Amtrak’s stalwart EMD F40PH fleet was sharing the duties with their replacements—new GE P40DC locomotives—and on this day, No. 812 is m.u.’ed with No. 378.

The Empire Builder crosses Big Sky County every day, passing along the way through scenic Glacier National Park.
