On April 5, 1996, scrappers working near the locomotive facility at Wisconsin Central’s Shops Yard at North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, are reducing older surplus locomotives to pieces of scrap and reusable parts. The rear hood sections of a former Soo Line EMD GP30 and WC SD45 No. 8993 sit on the left, and next to them is a dynamic brake housing from another SD45. In the background, a former Fox River Valley Railroad/Chicago & North Western GP9 No. 4510 that has already donated its trucks to the parts supply of the shop, will also eventually see the torch.
