Remarks & Notes
ALC-42 Charger #308 leads Amtrak #8, the eastbound Empire Builder, into La Crosse, Wisconsin. #308 and Charger #310 are the sole power for today’s #8. Most of the train is still on that large drawbridge spanning the Black River channel of the Mississippi River. La Crosse Amtrak station is just a couple of blocks ahead and #8 is running only 1 hour late today; Practically on time for this winter’s Builder.

This train, which runs between Chicago and Seattle and Portland, takes its name from James J. Hill, who founded the Great Northern Railroad and extended it from Minnesota to the Pacific Coast.
