G69 (La Crosse, WI - Winona, MN) heads north past Dakota. The trailing two engines and most of the cars will be set-out at Winona before heading into the UP's yard in Winona.

Love the railroad, hate the lead engine. Please either repaint these untis or have them trail only!

171 negotiates the S-curve south of LaCrescent, MN. Within minutes the conductor will ring up the CP dispatcher and ask permission into the LaCrescent Yard.

171 rolls north through the Reno Bottoms. June is the time to shoot here. It won't be long before the lily pads will die and turn brown, ruining this shot location.

A quick nap trackside after work was disturbed when 299 rumbled across Grand Crossing (CP/BNSF diamond) westbound. With a SOO SD60 leading, the chase was on!

Thanks to CP for bringing back the SOO SD-60s and giving me a reason to go trackside these days!

One can only wish that the approaching train is led by a Milwaukee Road engine in 2009 on this ex-Milwaukee Road line. ICE 6457 leads DM&E train 170 south towards Marquette, IA.

During the last light of day, the westbound Empire Builder leaves the shadows at M.P. 288 and enters the CP River Subdivision.
