CNR Canadian Locomotive Company A-B C-Liners wait with southbound freight 340 at Amherst. They are waiting for the steam excursion behind 2-8-0 467 to clear.

This was the first time that I had seen K4sa 612 and it arrived at the engine terminal while I was there. The fire is being cleaned while 3807 & 5348 sit in the background.

K4s 3807 sits in a rare bit of sun that day at South Amboy. The locomotive appears to have a stuck bell. This was about one year before the end of all Pennsylvania steam.

Y6 2138 leads another downgrade at the Davis Rd. crossing in Bonsack with westbound empty hoppers.

J 606 has the running gear cleaned in the wash rack.

J 606 is serviced and facing west in the afternoon at Shaffers Crossing. The shadow of the coaling tower is just creeping over the front of the engine but the J has a nice rods down pose.

S1a 0-8-0 232 is ready for work at Shaffers Crossing. This locomotive was only three years old at the time having been part of the final group built by Roanoke in 1953.

Class A 1230 sits next to J 601 at Shaffers Crossing engine terminal.

J 601 sits outside one of the lubritorium houses at Shaffers Crossing. The line poles are unfortunate but were an obstacle for some locomotive shots.

Y6 2154 sits at Shaffers Crossing facing west.

Famous class J 611 whistles for the Davis Rd. crossing at Bonsack while rolling downgrade with the Southern Ry. TENNESSEAN. The Blue Ridge Parkway now crosses over the railroad at this spot.

The first of the class J 4-8-4s pulls upgrade with the overnight POCAHONTAS from Cincinnati and Colombus for Norfolk.
