The OCS usually backs out of the shops across Rice Junction in order to head south to Jacksonville in order to keep #1 leading, very uncommon to head straight down, but today's run of seven cars with #2 leading is for the Jacksonville Division's "Family Days" and they will head down to Talleyrand Terminal for the event, requiring a runaround in the yard there to put #1 in the lead & the theater car on the rear. For a while, they had been deadheading the entire train to West Jax ahead of inspection trips, but lately they have been leaving Waycross to the point of origin for the trip, or combining with existing freight service. Today's departure was perfectly timed with I125 turning up towards the other end of the Jesup Sub, they will diverge at Brunswick Junction and head to the Nahunta Sub on their way to Savannah.
CSX has diverse passenger operations that include office car specials, trips to major events like the Kentucky Derby, track geometry trains and the annual Santa Claus train over the northern section of the fallen flag Clinchfield Railroad.
