Dead and shoved to the end of track was not a sign of the demise of this unit. These would carry on a few more years.
Busy day at Wimpey Minerals Quarry. The Rockrunner power sits idle on the siding while the U23B switches a cut of cars.
Northbound departing train is probably a turn/local to Patio Yard, as evidenced by the mixed freight. I like the matched set of gloriously unmuffled chuggers.

Oh they were turkeys but four of them on a big coal train was sweet music nevertheless. This southbound is nearing the end of double track on its trek to a powerplant somewhere.
I guess I like the oddballs. This unit started out on the Monon and somewhere along the line lost its upper headlight housing. Everything was apparently all right until CSX painters came along.
It won't be be CSXT for long. Built for SAL, this unit had been SCL, SBD and was now ready go to probably its last owner Nashville & Eastern. Being in the early carbody, which resembled the U28B... (more)
While we were in town to buy an industrial 65-ton GE this great looking nee-L&N, ex- SBD unit passed by. Few ended up looking this good. The smoke was a nice touch I think.
