Alpenglow. A combination of direct sunlight and diffracted light ("alpenglow") illuminates the peaks of the Sierra on the west side of the Owens Valley as a Southern Pacific crew gets Locomotive #18 ready for a southbound departure out of the yard in Laws, California.
