The hostlers pull an outbound train forward after putting the head end power on (as seen from Pepper Ave, over West Colton Yard). They will then hop on the helper unit and take up to the other end to add it to the rear of the train. Two Tunnel Motors (a 45 and a 40) paired with a rebuilt flare 45 are on the head end. Standing by to the right is rebuilt another flare 45. While I didn't have a scanner and didn't collect any details about the photo at the time, I do have a vivid memory of seeing all that dirt on the eSPee power and thinking, "I guess this is the future of railroading, grime." Two thoughts about that nearly 30 years later: 1) I wish I'd shot more back then of the grime on the eSPee power. 2) I prefer the grime to the tagging we see today. Oct 25 1995.
