An eastbound freight lights up the west portal of the enlarged Allegheny Tunnel as a car descends the hill above. Note the gigantic icicles in the abandoned Gallitzin Tunnel portal at left.

With a snow squall quickly retreating eastward, the sun breaks through and creates a great lighting situation as eastbound autoparts train 12N grinds up the hill in Cresson.

The helpers of 12N, still blue NS 3338 and NS 3344, also reflect the setting sun perfectly on this cold Saturday evening in January.

And, looking the other way, the trailing helper, NS 3344, finds a little pocket of sun as it passes milepost 251 across from the Station Inn.

NS SD40-2s 3342 and still blue 3336 help manifest 11A up the east slope of the Allegheny Mtns. and around Horseshoe Curve. Another set of helpers are shoving on the rear.

The last shot of our early morning chase of this eastbound is shown at one of the tiny crossings in Elkhorn, a few miles west of the end of its climb and the summit of the Pokey at Elkhorn Tunnel.
